Backdrop Violet

Warehouse Live // Houston, TX // January 11th, 2020

Photos and review by Brittaney Penney

On Saturday, January 11, 2020, Backdrop Violet performed in the Studio at Warehouse Live for the Classic Encounters Tour. Backdrop Violet is a local, alternative pop band based in Houston, Texas and the band consists of the lead singer Blake Melanson, drummer Tyler McGlashen, guitarist and keyboardist Travis Taylor, and bassist Eric Doerflinger.

Backdrop Violet currently has one EP, and two full albums released. Classic Encounters With the Good Life is their most recent album and is where they got the name for their current tour. Backdrop Violet has also just released their new music video for “Brixton,” one of the songs on their newest album.

During the show, Backdrop Violet played multiple hits from Classic Encounters With the Good Life, but they also threw it back and played fan favorites from their previous releases. During the song “Love Me More,” lead singer Blake Melanson brought up a couple from the front of the stage. To the crowd’s delight, the man proposed to his girlfriend and she said YES! It was an honor being able to witness this important milestone in a stranger’s life and we at Highlight Magazine wish them all the best!

Overall, I really enjoyed the show. The openers, Petfish, Bright Fires, InnerLux, and WLK were all amazing and really pumped the crowd up. If you are ever in Houston or can catch any of these bands when they tour next, I highly recommend going to one of their shows.
