Sometimes you end up going to a concert you knew was going to hit you with emotions, but you didn’t expect to be nearly punched with them. You really got to feel something that night. That’s a Movements show.
From California, the post-hardcore four-piece band Movements is out on their Happier Now USA Tour, reaching 24 cities across the country. They’re celebrating their latest record, ‘Happier Now,’ that released on September 4, by playing many songs off it. On October 8, the group made their second stop on tour in Portland, OR, to play a sold-out show at McMenamins Crystal Ballroom.
From the moment the band hit the stage, the crowd went crazy for them. Even someone toward the front threw their drink over everyone, showing the excitement that was shared among those in the room. The first songs on the setlist were from ‘Happier Now,’ introducing them to fans in a live setting. It seemed as though the record came out barely over a month before that night, the audience already knew every lyric to those tracks and were so thrilled to hear them from the stage in person for the first time.
From the start of the set to the very end, nearly every song had numerous fans crowd surfing. There was non-stop energy, and vocalist Patrick Miranda shared that he was absolutely loving it. He also spoke of his appreciation toward the band’s fans, for them being with them all these years. Even when the 10-year-old track “Kept” was played, so many were overjoyed with the performance of it. And with keeping the energy going, about halfway through the set, Miranda asked for a circle pit, which the crowd created almost instantly.
It was the high level of enthusiasm. It was the connection between the band and fans that was so genuine. The entirety of the night had fans singing along to songs that are so deep emotionally, they’re significantly touching. To hear these songs live, it got those in the crowd to sing along with such passion. Even with “Lead Pipe,” a more energetic track, there was so much life felt in the room. But you can bet that with the closing song “Daylily” it was met with even more feeling, so sure tears fell down many fans’ faces, for this can be a very personal song to relate to.
There are many dates left to catch Movements on their current headliner, and you can snag tickets here. Whether you’re looking to feel something, let emotions out, or just see an energetic band live, they are your go-to. Catch them now until mid-November. Experience a show that will have you leaving a bit more relieved than when you arrived, letting some emotions out with screaming along to their songs.
