Toro y Moi

Hollywood Bowl // Los Angeles, CA // June 16th, 2019

Photos and review by Sara Salari

A night to remember. Oakland based act, Toro y Moi, slid their way into everyone’s heart on Father’s Day night at the Hollywood Bowl. It was a wholesome performance from start to finish lead by the multi-talented front man, Chaz Brunswick.

Opening for Chromeo, Toro lifted the crowd to their feet on several occasions with their upbeat funky chillwave tunes. Smiles were being filled throughout the amphitheatre as Chaz opened the set with, “Ordinary Pleasure.” Utilizing all parts of the stage, Chaz’s dance moves were some of the best I’ve seen.

Toro y Moi released Outer Peace this year, an album dedicated to the freelance soul made by the master freelancer himself. We were lucky enough to blessed with all the hits from their latest album, as well as the hits from the older collection- such as “Rose Quartz.”

It felt good seeing this California-based act take the stage in the biggest venue they’ve played in the state thus far. There was no being coy for these openers, they’ve earned this spot. Toro y Moi is currently taking a break from tour, but they will be back in LA headlining at the Hollywood Palladium on September 20th.
