Anti-flag / Hostage Calm Split
Words by Liz Brossard

Anti-flag and Hostage Calm have come together for charity and have created a 7” split under Run for Cover Records. The two song split is not only worth a listen, but think about how great you will feel knowing that your money went towards two charities based in each of the bands’ home towns.

Hostage Calm’s “Olly Olly Oxen Free” may be the calmer of the two tracks on the split, but it is undeniably punk in all the right ways, which we tend to expect from both of these bands.  I also found this track to be very catchy and something that I would enjoy singing along to over and over.

On the other half of the split we have Anti-flag’s “Branded Rebellion.” This is the harder and heavier punk track out of the two, but they lend a balance to each other. Honestly, I can’t really describe it in any other way than, this is the punk sound I expect from Anti-flag.

This year is the twenty year anniversary of Antiflag and what a better way to celebrate that then tours and a never before heard song. Hostage Calm is coming off the high of its album released in October, 2012 and touring with Anti-flag.

Both bands put out some solid music I am glad they are still keeping punk alive and relevant.
