Recommended songs: “Gibberish” and “You’re a Tick”
The solo project band Honeyblood have released a new album that will send you into a universe of laidback vibes with some edgy tunes and lyrics. The album, In Plain Sight, was released May 24, 2019 and fans have been reacting to it quite positively. Singer-songwriter and guitarist Stina Tweeddale from Scotland has given the music world something new to listen to this last weekend that will with no doubt be listened to for a very long time. Indie rock artist Tweeddale gives folks a piece of Honeyblood’s previous sounds while experimenting with new ones as well.
Marathon Artists Label signed band begins with the tune “She’s a Nightmare” that starts off with the instruments giving the listener an easy “in” to the album that lures them in with a pleasant feeling. Once the chorus starts, though, you are in for a ride and the feel of the album is introduced. This song, between its verses and choruses, gives off much of the indie style that is put into the album all throughout.
Now if you are wanting a song about being relieved that someone is no longer in your life, possibly due to some drama, then the next song “The Third Degree” is the one for you. With lyrics, “no, no, drama, drama baby” followed by “it used to be all about you but now you’re outta my view,” one can certainly relate to the feeling of a toxic person being gone. You might be missing this person at times, even when you see them, but then you remind yourself that they are out of your life, and with this song, you can feel more empowered about it. The music for this track is also a stronger one and makes you want to dance around and belt out the lyrics as if it is your anthem.
“Gibberish” is track four which sounds a little more angry, maybe because Tweeddale is feeling confused during the song. “But it means only gibberish, can’t make sense of it/When you’re talking shit, sounds like gibberish,” are lyrics that express how she feels in a situation of being placed somewhere she does not wish to be, a place with already set rules. “You’re a Tick” is track number nine that creates a slightly different mood. The music is deeper sounding and a tad slower with yet some upbeat tempo. It sounds more mysterious. You will be alternating your shoulders up and down along to this song for sure. This song is more like a game, and you will take notice when you listen closely to the lyrics.
Honeyblood does a wonderful job portraying a new sound while still incorporating previous work. She ends the album with “Harmless,” a slower tempo song with piano – it is softer, even somewhat soothing. It is a good way to say “goodbye” to the album (for now). This one will relax you as you regain energy for when you listen to the album again. Honeyblood succeeds in writing this wonderful indie rock record. Just like the title of the album, it is “in plain sight” that this one will get you going and your feet tapping along with its impressive tunes.
