Head North – Bloodlines

Brent Martone, Ben Lieber, Alex Matos, and Ryan Harris make up the Buffalo, NY band Head North. They are quickly making a name for themselves in the pop punk scene with the release of their newest EP on Bad Timing Records, Bloodlines.
Bloodlines takes you on an emotional whirlwind from the drums, guitar riffs, and the passionate vocals by singer Martone. Martone’s raspy vocals and emotional lyrics are sure to make you feel for him through his sadness and frustrations. For a young band that has only been around since 2013, they show a great deal of confidence throughout each of these songs and you can hear that they were not afraid to do some creative experimenting. A personal favorite of mine off Bloodlines is the song “Brave Hands.” The bass, guitars, and whole dynamic of the song will grab your attention. I found myself also drawn in to the song “The Path,” with its ominous style. The track “Bluejay” is one you will find getting stuck in your head immediately thanks to it’s chorus and catchy beat.
When I saw Head North play a few weeks ago in Chicago, I found myself captivated by their performance. They don’t sound like the typical pop punk band and I think that their indie mix into the genre is what sets them apart. If you’re a fan of Balance & Composure or Have Mercy, then be sure to check out Head North’s Bloodlines. You won’t be disappointed by this unique and creative EP.
