P!NK

Villa Park // Birmingham, England // 13 June 2023

Photos and review by Sophie Jones

Upon approaching the Aston Villa football ground, you could find hordes of fans lining the streets all excited, chattering away to other fans and enjoying drinks in the sun whilst belting out their favourite P!NK tracks and getting into the summer carnival atmosphere.

Once inside, it was go-time and let me tell you, P!NK knows how to make an entrance as she appeared behind a pair of huge lips suspended in the air which was flanked by giant silver palm trees, before dropping in off a bungee cord. She continued bouncing and flipping while performing “Get The Party Started.” Now, THAT’S how you make an entrance.

Throughout the night, P!NK kept cracking jokes with the audience and accepting gifts of flowers (there were lots of flowers), frog headbands and even a locket with a picture inside. She even said, “You lot are a romantic bunch.”

Not only that, but P!NK took a birthday card from a fan in the front row, which was at the end of thrust and signed it for her before getting the whole stadium to sing “Happy Birthday, Jodie.”

P!NK sang all of her fan favourite hits, as you can imagine, and during “Blow Me One Last Kiss,” her dancers arrived on stage dressed as giant pink lips. As they danced down the thrust before lining up across it, confetti was blown out of them, marking a truly memorable moment in the set.

So much happened within the show that listing all the highlights in one review would create an essay. A beautiful moment for me was towards the end of “Cover Me With Sunshine,” Willow, P!NK’s 12-year-old daughter, joined her on stage and held her own while standing right next to her mom, receiving the loudest applause of the night. It was an incredible moment to witness.

Throughout the night, there were countless outfit changes which you’d expect if you’ve seen P!NK before and very quick outfit changes, may I add. Honestly, for me, the best moment of the night came at its climax and even though I knew this was coming, as I’ve been to previous P!NK concerts, she took to the skies (literally) to perform “So What,” flying around the entire stadium on wires, performing somersaults and flips, positioning herself on podiums across the stadium so everyone got a close up glimpse of her before taking to the skies again and singing flawlessly as always. As the night ended, a beautiful firework display was set off just behind the stage, filling the dark sky with dazzling sparkles of colour.
