Hot off their Coachella performance, MUNA brought their electrifying live set to Seattle on April 17. On the Monday night, fans lined the barricade in anticipation of the three-piece, their high energy filling the room to the brim. Before MUNA took the stage, however, the crowd was treated to a thrilling performance by UK-based duo Nova Twins.

Nova Twins

Gaining success over the years with remixes and collaborations with the likes of Bring Me The Horizon, Kim Petras and Sam Smith, Nova Twins brought an unforgettable performance to the Showbox SODO. Their genre-bending style and charismatic stage presence captivated many in the crowd and for sure earned them some new Seattle fans.

Filling their set with hard-hitting tracks like “Cleopatra,” “Puzzles,” and “A Dark Place For Somewhere Beautiful,” all off of their latest album, Supernova, Nova Twins showed their versatility as songwriters, musicians and performers, showcasing a sound unlike anything else in music right now.

MUNA

Shortly after Nova Twins’ set, the lights dimmed and clouds of smoke came billowing off the stage as MUNA made their appearance. Opening up their set with “What I Want,” it was clear all MUNA wanted was an unforgettable night for fans.

Vocalist Katie Gavin spent the entire night interacting with fans in the crowd, pointing at them and singing the lyrics along with them. She took the time to connect with each person she locked eyes with, creating a strong bond that likely plays a role in why MUNA have such a powerful, dedicated fanbase.

Their 19-song set list was filled with old 2019 classics like “Stayaway,” Taken,” and “Pink Light.” They even performed “So Special” for the first time since 2017. This was an incredibly memorable moment during their set, with fans shrieking with excitement as soon as the distinct opening notes rang through the speaker.

Along with old favorites, MUNA played plenty of material off of their 2022 self-titled album, including “Home By Now,” “Kind of Girl,” and “Loose Garment.” During all of these songs, guitarists Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson truly kept the energy going, constantly moving across the stage with huge smiles on their faces. It was clear that there was no other place they’d rather be than on that stage playing songs to their many fans.

To help close their set, MUNA performed their new single “One That Got Away,” which was received warmly by fans. Despite being released the day of the show, many fans still knew the words to the song, showing how dedicated they are to learn MUNA’s music the moment it comes out.

As an encore, MUNA performed “I Know a Place” and “Silk Chiffon,” the latter causing the crowd to erupt in hysterics once Katie started singing the opening lyrics. As their most popular song to date, the performance of “Silk Chiffon” earned the loudest crowd response during the entire night, with everyone in the room singing along to the song as if they were the ones performing onstage.

It’s no secret MUNA continue to grow in popularity, earning new fans everywhere they go. With tour dates lined up all the way through August, there are many opportunities for you to see MUNA live and I highly recommend it. Their stage presence and interaction with fans are unmatched in the pop world, creating a charismatic, energy-charged live set that gets you hooked instantly.

For Seattle fans, we are counting down the days until they are back for Capitol Hill Block Party this summer.
