"Hoodie Allen isn’t just a singer, he’s also a performer who knows what the crowd wants and puts on the best shows for his fans. If you're looking for a night consisting of jumping, arm waving, singing with fellow fans and possibly losing your voice from singing along so loudly because you’re too excited, then a Hoodie Allen concert is for you."

Hoodie Allen with Belaganas

The Wonder Ballroom // Portland, OR // Aug. 12, 2022

Review by Bruna Cucolo

Through the month of August, Brooklyn-based musician Hoodie Allen goes on his U.S. With or Without You tour playing both new and old tunes that fans love. On August 12 he made his stop in Portland, Oregon at the Wonder Ballroom and delivered a show that was beyond memorable. Supporting the artist was Belaganas, a hip hop trio from Phoenix, Arizona. The two acts put on a show that has without a doubt left attenders replaying it in their memories.

There was no better opener than Belaganas for that night. From beginning to end, the three-part group had so much energy, and they never lost a bit of it throughout their set. It was the jumping around on stage, crowd engagement, positive vibes with one another and talent that all maintained consistently as they performed. With almost 10 songs on the setlist, the half-hour-long set felt like half the time, it went by too fast. It was a great way to open the night and get the audience ready for the headliner.

You know the crowd is ready and excited when they start chanting “Hoodie, Hoodie, Hoodie” minutes before the singer appeared on stage. Then it was the drums and guitar that began playing, red and purple lights flashed across the stage and the crowd cheered loudly as Hoodie Allen approached center stage. He began his set with “Eighteen Cool” and from then on his setlist was a hit. The entire audience participated in singing along so loudly through most of his set that sometimes they were heard over the singer through the speakers. It was a loud night.

With about 20 songs on the setlist including encores, both new and have-been-around-for-years fans were able to have the best high-energy, boisterous time. A few songs including throwbacks were “Movie,” “Champagne and Pools” and “Small Town.” He even performed a song acoustically to slow things down, but it didn’t take long before the room was back to its high spirits with their enthusiasm toward his songs.

With a handful of shows left on the tour, be sure to catch him on the road if possible. Hoodie Allen isn’t just a singer, he’s also a performer who knows what the crowd wants and puts on the best shows for his fans.
