VIDEO PREMIERE: Electro-pop artist Benjamin Poss debuts aesthetically stunning video for “Helium”

Electro-pop artist Benjamin Poss doesn’t need loud synths and overpowering electronic beats to captivate an audience. His voice speaks for itself–soft, smooth and tantalizing. This is no more evident than in the music video for his song, “Helium.”

Directed and produced by Michael Spencer (with help and vision from Poss himself), the video mixes scenes of darkness and color to show the contrast of positive and negative forces that come to play in life. It’s a simple concept that keeps the main focus on Poss and the song itself, no distractions from choreographed dance sequences or rehearsed plot lines.

Poss had this to say about the “Helium” video:

It’s about finally feeling free. I recall the feeling of just being weighed down by life – more so, the person I was with and the memories that lingered when they left. I gave so much of myself that I felt like I wasn’t getting back – both in the relationship and the post relationship closure/respect I didn’t have. I finally was like, you know what? It’s time to make something of myself and me crying over what has happened doesn’t change that it happened. So, like most writer’s, I had to put pen to paper immediately and tell my story.

When talking with my director of this video, we really had the concept of me being a silhouette and expanded from there. We both agreed that lights have a certain energy as to the color they are. Red can either mean love or angst. Blue can me peace or sadness. Apply that to every color and that is the same. We all have those times that make us go back to a time when things weren’t the best. The world seems grey (the black and white section of the video) but then we find closure – even if all by ourselves. You do not have to be afraid of those times for them to remind you that you can walk into the light. You have walked right into the light before when you feared it and are at the end of the tunnel once again.

The message that I want people to take away from my music is that they are not alone and can survive anything they have been through.
