Night Terrors of 1927 – Everything’s Coming Up Roses
Album Review by Colleen Casey

In the world of indie-pop, Night Terrors of 1927 has emerged giving everyone their fill of synth pop and powerful emotions.  This musical project consists of Jarrod Gorbel, from The Honorary Title, and Blake Sennett, from Rilo Kiley and The Elected.  The duo has only been together since 2012, and after releasing their single in 2013, “Watch the World Go Dark,” they were quickly picked up by Atlantic Records.  Today, Night Terrors highly anticipated album, Everything’s Coming Up Roses is released.

Combining their rock backgrounds with synth pop, they have created songs on this album that will keep you moving and feeling like your modern life soundtrack is mixing with the 80’s.  Really though, if popular director John Hughes was still around today, he would be using Night Terror’s music in his movies.

I love songs that feature a lot of harmonies and that is exactly what Night Terrors have added into theirs.  Two personal favorites of mine off Everything’s Coming Up Roses are “When You Were Mine (featuring Tegan and Sara)” the single off the new release and “Always Takes You Back.” This album has 11 songs that will leave you impressed. I honestly had only seen Night Terrors of 1927’s name but never gave them a listen and I’m so glad I did. I jammed the whole drive to work and it’s one that will make you keep listening and not want to get out of your car.

Night Terrors of 1927 are definitely a band on the rise to keep an eye on.  Having just performed on Late Night with Seth Meyers a couple nights ago, they are also having a record release show for Everything’s Coming Up Roses this week on January 23rd in their hometown of Los Angeles at The Roxy.  They also can be seen on a North American tour with Bleachers and Joywave beginning in March and will be performing at Coachella this April. I know that I will be checking them out when they come to a city near me.

If you are a fan of M83, Postal Service, The Killers, and Bleachers and are looking for a combination of all of those, then look no further because Everything’s Coming Up Roses is just what you need.
