Busy Living – “Let You Down”

As Morgan Freeman’s character in The Shawshank Redemption said, “You either get busy living, or get busy dying.” I like to subscribe to the theory that if you get Busy Living, it probably means you just have good taste in music. The rock trio based out of Los Angeles went behind the scenes with their hit song, “LYD

“Let You Down” is as much an apology as it is a denial. I was sorry to make anyone feel that shitty, but also knew that I hadn’t truly done anything wrong. The main lyric of the song was actually something that I tried to say to her to avoid any bad break, but it still didn’t work. People like to believe what they want, and when I told her that I’d let her down, it didn’t really compute. The thing that people don’t always sing about is how painful it can be to hurt someone. That’s what the song’s about, at its core.

“The recording process was very creative and surprising. The original structure was insane and ran about 7 minutes long. I think after we did the first pass of our version, Jim (Eno) got on the talkback mic and very unbiased (yet lucidly) said, “Well… that was something.” And after a couple more passes, we came to the solution that we didn’t need three solo sections, a long rootsy jam or a fade out into white noise. We wanted a pop song, and what we had in the end was, I think, the natural form of the song. We took out most of the bells and whistles that felt forced and let the song live in its own world. With that space around it, I believe the song could become different things to different people, which is the point. Right?”

“LET YOU DOWN” – Mike Moonves

I hate feeling like this
Watchin you walk through a crowd
I’m sorry I’ve become your lonely heart’s desire
Am I so terrible?
Tryin to break your fall
How’d it come to this?
I’ll never know

I don’t wanna let you down
But it’s gonna happen, yeah it’s gonna happen
I don’t wanna let you down
But it’s gonna happen, something’s gonna happen

True love don’t feel like this
I know cause I’ve been before
I know cause I tried to see myself in you
And it’s unbearable
Having to say it’s so
I’ve been walkin a thin line for so long
I’m still not ready to go

And I don’t wanna let you down
But it’s gonna happen, yeah it’s gonna happen
I don’t wanna let you down
But it’s gonna happen, something’s gonna happen

Made no promises I couldn’t keep
I never gave you a thing to believe
I’m just letting me hand you away
I can’t give you a reason
I’ll find you a season one day

And I don’t wanna let you down
But it’s gonna happen, yeah it’s gonna happen
I don’t wanna let you down
But it’s gonna happen, something’s gonna happen
I don’t wanna let you down
