Five Best Singles on the Radio
Words and Picks by Jennifer Boylen

I drive a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta so I don’t quite have the luxury of Sirius radio in my car or an auxiliary plug.  I get bored with full cd’s during my long commutes to work and although I’ve toyed with cassette adapters and FM transmitters to be able to listen to  my own music collection, the good old car radio is always the most reliable option.  While most Chicago stations play the same handful of songs over and over until your ears bleed; listeners are becoming more and more musically diverse and some radio playlists are reflecting this.  I have definitely noticed this shift and have put together my five favorite singles on the radio right now.

Sam Smith – Stay With Me
This track is gut wrenchingly beautiful.  No one can deny Sam Smith’s talent and he is everywhere right now.  “Stay With Me” is my personal favorite of his right now.

Paramore – Ain’t It Fun
Any sort of Paramore on the radio is worth turning up the volume.  Currently, “Ain’t It Fun” is on rotation on most stations and I keep finding it stuck in my head.

Ed Sheeran – Sing
At first, I thought this song was so annoying and seriously out of character for everyone’s favorite ginger singer/songwriter.  But, “Sing” has grown on me, and basically everything Pharrel touches turns to gold and this is no exception.

MAGIC! – Rude
I feel like this track came straight out of left field.  I had never heard MAGIC! on the radio before this “Rude”, but it’s so damn catchy you have to love it.

Travie McCoy ft. Brendon Urie – Keep On Keeping On
I really dig Travie McCoy’s style.  He always merges his spoken word with much more alternative vocals and I really enjoy it.  Most recently, he featured Brendon Urie on “Keep On Keeping On” and I’ve heard it on the airwaves a handful of times.  Can’t decide which I like more; the actual song or the fact that Brendan sings on it.
