Five Albums For A Long Flight
Words and Picks by Jennifer Boylen

I spent the first month of the New Year abroad.  It was amazing, but traveling internationally comes along with endless hours on planes, trains, and in taxi cabs.  During my trip I found myself gravitating towards a few albums in particular and thought I should share them with our lovely Highlight readers.  Normally I either would choose classics such as the Rolling Stones and the Doors to fill my ears or some calm usually acoustic singer-songwriter for traveling; but in this list, I have a bit of variety.

Bastille – Bad Blood
I love Bastille.  I won’t lie, I became aware of this London band through their hit single ‘Pompeii’ and had to hear more.  They have an electronic edge and the unique vocals of lead singer Dan Smith make this record a must have. Bad Blood captures various sounds and moods and will keep you interested for the whole hour it plays.

Panic! At the Disco – Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die!
I preordered this record and it has been on repeat since its release.  Panic! Never disappoints and always manages to surprise listeners with their new sounds and styles.  This record has a synth-pop vibe while still being true to their musicianship and lyrical depth.

The Maine – Imaginary Number EP
The Maine acoustics have always been and will always be some of my favorites.  This EP is raw and emotion filled and you can feel it in your bones while it plays through the headphones.  Not to mention, I was partial to “Raining In Paris” mostly because I was in the city.

The 1975 – The 1975
The 1975 is one of those bands everyone should love.  They are great musicians and their songs are one of a kind.  Their self-titled album has obvious 80’s influences that seems very nostalgic and more aged than it really is. I dare you to listen to this record and not get “Chocolate” stuck in your head for days.

Sleeping With Sirens – Feel
I’ll be honest, at first this album didn’t make much of an impression on me.  But, when its songs continued to grab my attention as my music library was on shuffle I gave it a second chance.  A couple of the songs are a bit of a white wash in terms of originality, but it has quite a few gems and I have found myself thoroughly enjoying it.
