The Casket Girls – “Same Side”

0

I enjoyed “getting lost” listening to “Same Side.” The Casket Girls take an instinctive approach towards music. They try to capture the raw, unfiltered product. According to the girls, everything is open to interpretation. And that is exactly how I felt listening to “Same Side.” I think the song puts it’s listener in a great environment to just relax and think. Give the track a listen, and don’t forget, “We’re on the same side.”

Background:
It’s hard to understand how we have all become so separate from one another. It’s like a defense mechanism has kicked in, leaving us living in fear, locking the car door, when you are right there, in the car. What are we so afraid of? Death? Pain and suffering? These outcomes are as natural as the air we breathe, yet I can’t seem to control myself. I am triple checking to make sure that door is locked. To me, this song is about letting go of this fear of the unknown, and embracing empathy. We can all relate to each other, we are all relatable and we are all related. Cause and effect is another theme. Our process is like an experiment. Ryan sends us these magical musical landscapes, then my Sister Phaedra and I record ourselves singing through our very first listens, attempting to capture the unfiltered instinct. Usually we have no idea what we are talking about until we look back in retrospect. Fay and I melt away hours trying to consciously connect to the collective Unconscious. Everything is wide open to interpretation. It’s interesting that the same ideas can be applied to our day-to-day lives, or world wars, or otherworldly dimensions. We are the preacher, we are the choir. We’re on the same side. Anyhow, we use the example of a moth and a human being in this song, illustrating how precious and fragile and perfect and self-mending life and death are. Spending so much time with these thoughts, it has become apparent that even our very existence is open for interpretation, and so we don’t exist just as much as we do. But perhaps I have steered us off the beaten path and down that long and winding road that disappears on the map. We hold this song near and dear, and hope you like it.

Lyrics
I swatted at a moth
And a chill came over me
It was simple on my part
But it left him spinning

There’s nothing that you can do
Your heart is free to be untrue
The line is blurry

I call my dreams dirty tricks
when I wake I feel sick
it’s unrequited reality

We are the Preacher
We are the Choir
Nobody is getting any higher

We’re on the same side

I swatted at a moth
I could have caught him in my hand
Every truth will turn into a tiny light
Look out Moth, piano’s falling from the sky
