Five Catchy Pop Albums By Female Solo Artists
Words and Picks By Annette Schaefer

Despite my undying love of rock ‘n’ roll, I’ve always been someone who enjoys a beautiful voice and a great pop song. Also, being a female and being a singer my self I’ve always felt drawn to listen to female’s that are talented, artistic and someone I can admire. These are few of my favorite pop albums by some of my favorite singing ladies.

 Kelly Clarkson – My December
Kelly Clarkson is definitely one of my favorite singers. I love the strength in her voice. She is also an artist that tends to put out really solid albums and My December was particularly great. Despite her label’s lack of support on this album, My December is incredible because it is Kelly doing exactly what she wants to do artistically and the result is catchy, edgy and beautiful.

 Lily Allen – Alright, Still
Lily Allen is sassy, crude and absolutely hilarious. I love the music she puts out because it always gets stuck in your head and it’s a lot of fun to listen to. Alright, Still was her debut album and the songs off of it are still amongst my favorite pop songs of all time. I love hearing her sing in her adorable British accent and talk about creepers at the bar and old lady’s getting mugged.

Christina Aguilera – Stripped
Ever since I was kid I have loved and admired Christina Aguilera’s big, beautiful voice. When I initially listened to her 2002 album, Stripped, I wasn’t all that impressed. As I got older, though, and I continued to listen to the album, I began to notice its strengths. Now it is my favorite album by Christina Aguilera. Stripped is full of soul, edge and of course Christina’s flawless vocals.

Alexz Johnson – Voodoo
If you don’t already know, Alexz Johnson is that girl that got nails pelted through her head in “Final Destination 3”. She was also Jude Harrison in The N TV show “Instant Star”, who is definitely one of my fictional heroes. Obviously I love Alexz Johnson for more than her acting chops, she’s also a phenomenal singer and her debut solo album, Voodoo, shows off her amazing voice. This album sounds nothing like what you would hear on the rock filled “Instant Star” soundtrack. This album is definitely pop music that is fun and very unique.

Michelle Branch – The Spirit Room
I fell in love with Michelle Branch’s song “Everywhere” when I was about 10 years old and I used to sing it all the time on the playground. I never did buy the full album The Spirit Room, though, until I was nearly out of high school. I mainly bought the album because I desperately wanted to have the song “Everywhere”, but as I listened to it, I found that there are a lot of other great songs on this album. I’ve always been a fan of Michelle Branch’s catchy and light-hearted singer-songwriter style and this album really epitomizes that.
