Five Albums For A Day At The Beach
Words and Picks by Haley Black

When you think of summer you think of getting a tan, feeling the sand between your toes, road trips, festivals, bonfires, and of course the perfect music to be the soundtrack of it all. Those dreadful all-nighters cramming for tests become voluntary and carefree spent with friends rather than your head face down in a textbook. I’ve picked my top 5 albums that I believe set the mood right for a fun filled day at the beach (or at the pool or lake for that matter if you don’t get a chance to visit the ocean).

Best Coast – The Only Place
This duo possesses that surfer, beach vibe in every song that they write. I mean, you can just tell by looking at their band name. The title track has the absolute perfect lyrics for the occasion saying “We’ve got the ocean, got the babes, got the sun, we’ve got the waves.” Their laid back style will get you forgetting all of your troubles for the time being. Summer vacation is all about unwinding any chance you get.

Grouplove – Never Trust A Happy Song
This indie pop outfit only produces catchy, quirky tunes, both upbeat and relaxed. The more popular songs like “Naked Kids” and “Itchin’ On A Photograph” will get you feeling excited, while “Betty’s A Bombshell” and “Close Your Eyes And Count To Ten” will put you at ease. This is a great album to listen to through your headphones while enjoying the cool breeze and taking in the smell of saltwater that fills the air.

Walk The Moon – Walk The Moon
I don’t know about you, but the sunshine instantly brightens my mood, as does Walk The Moon with their cheery lyrics and lively melodies. This album is upbeat from beginning to end. There is no room for depressing songs here, only ones that will allow for a good time and leave you in high spirits. Though it’s difficult to choose, “Quesadilla” and “Next In Line” are two my personal favorites off their self titled album. The indie pop band and a warm summer day spent with friends or loved ones undoubtedly go hand in hand.

The Summer Set – Legendary
Every summer needs its fair share of classic tunes as well as fresh new music, and The Summer Set’s latest album is basically 12 tracks of pure energy and fun. The Summer Set have that carefree attitude and always encourage their fans to do what they love and be themselves and not to take life so seriously. Spending time at the beach, and summer in general is all about letting loose, relaxing, and soaking up as much sun as possible (without turning into a lobster of course). Who wouldn’t want to have a legendary summer with a legendary soundtrack to match?

Radical Something – We Are Nothing
Radical Something possess that cool and collected California beach vibe that can’t help but to get you relaxed, but pumped at the same time. With the perfect balance of smooth vocals and catchy rhymes, Radical Something are the epitome of the word carefree. “Long Hair Don’t Care,” “Be Easy,” and “Escape” are must have tracks on your beach day playlist that will be the recipe for an unforgettable summer.
