Five Nostalgic Albums
Words and Picks by Jessica Klinner

Nostalgia can occur in many different forms. You might feel nostalgic when visiting your old high school or going back to a city you grew up in or visiting a music venue where you saw your first show. It appears different for everyone. For many people, music triggers those feelings of nostalgia. A song can take them back to a time and place in the past when things were simpler. Here are a few albums that take me back to those simpler times.

Four Year Strong- Explains It All
Although this album is a fairly recent release, it features some of the best alternative songs of the 90s. This album is a perfect mixture of the new and the old. Four Year Strong did a wonderful job with this cover album. This has to be one of my favorite releases from Four Year Strong because even though they didn’t originally write the songs, they made them their own.

Fall Out Boy- From Under The Cork Tree
I think this album makes a lot of people feel nostalgic. This was the album that really put Fall Out Boy on the map for me. A few songs on this album even graced my Myspace page during middle school. These songs are some of my favorites that Fall Out Boy has ever written. Since the release of this album, the band has gone through a lot and matured, but this album will always remind me of the band they were before their hiatus.

Never Shout Never- The Yippee EP
This album really brings it back for me. Never Shout Never was the first concert I ever went to in the “scene”. I owe this EP everything because it was a gateway into my listening to other bands, many of whom I still listen to today. I still listen to these songs every now and then to remind me of what kind of sound really triggered my interest in alternative/pop rock music. Even though my days of being a NSN fan have come and gone, I have a lot of love for this EP.

The Maine-Can’t Stop Won’t Stop
This album was the anthem to my freshman year of high school. This same year I saw The Maine for the first time. Ever since then, The Maine has been one of my favorite bands. This is The Maine’s most fun record. All of the songs remind me of my first time seeing them live and every time I listen to this record it takes me back to that night. Listening to this album now, it’s hard to believe it’s even the same band. The Maine has come so far since this album, but it will always be one of my favorites.

Backstreet Boys- Backstreet Boys
I saved the best for last. Although I was a huge fan of N’SYNC, the Backstreet Boys had my heart. I still get in arguments with my friends about which boy band was the best.  This album was constantly by my side and in my Walkman (that was weird to say). Countless hours were spent dancing and singing along to this CD in my room. I still put this album in every now and again when I’m feeling nostalgic.
