Green Day talks about Amy Winehouse Tribute song

Amy Winehouse’s death was a year ago this week, and such a tragic lost to the world. She lived a hard life but she brought the world beautiful music that had real soul behind it, which let’s face it, is hard to find in this generation. Billie Joe Armstrong states in an interview with NME that he did not know her personally, but “I think [her death] was a major loss because that was a generation’s connection to that [soul music], and this was someone who should be here now and I just felt really sad.”

Between now and January of 2013, Green Day will be releasing 3 albums; ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tre!, one of which will feature a tribute song to Winehouse. Armstrong also states that, “It’s interesting because if you think about [the album], it’s a party record and so at the end of it maybe ‘Amy’ kind of comes across as the consequences of the party.”

The song will definitely be anticipated to be heard by many. A tribute song to someone who they didn’t even know. But that’s what makes it all the better, because the other people who didn’t know her can feel a connection as well.
