This Wild Life – Low Tides
Review by Ally Fisher

Low Tides, the follow-up album to This Wild Life’s successful debut Clouded, breaks all preconceived notions of the sophomore slump. With Low Tides, the melodies are finely tuned, the production is top-notch, and the hooks are luring paired with lead singer Kevin Jordan’s lulling vocals.

Single “Hit the Reset” opens the album with powerful and emotional lyrics of the lusting desire of wanting to start over in a failed relationship. Notoriously known for their home-hitting lyrics, This Wild Life created an album that falls nothing short of highly relatable lyrics about life and love. “Falling Down” embraces a full band composition, a fun, high-tempo piece in a faction of solemn acoustic strings. Every song on Low Tides tells a beautiful, and in the case of “Just Yesterday,” haunting narrative. As the last verse comes into light, Jordan utters pleas of “I’ve got no peace of mind if you’re not in my life/Should I let you go/and be with someone new?/Should I say I’m happy for you?/And pretend I’m happy for you?”

Low Tides is a flawless addition to This Wild Life’s growing discography. As a fresh inclusion to the scene with their acoustic-centric sound, the band has managed to effortlessly stay afloat with their unique take on what we can define as traditional pop-punk/pop-rock. After numerous listens to not only Low Tides but also Clouded, I can only hope that This Wild Life continue to release music for years to come.
