Brand New – “Mene”

Brand New is back with new music after a six year absence. Now many people were disappointed by Daisy, simply because it had been such a long anticipated release after The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me. However, it was not nearly as long of a wait as it has been up until now. After six years Brand New is back with “Mene.” A swung, fast, hard hitting punk song that will bring you back to the days of Deja Entendu and Your Favorite Weapon. The upbeat tempo, gut wrenching screams, and intricate guitar work is what Brand New was known for in their younger years.

“Mene” is a fast, ‘southern’ punk song that draws heavily from their earlier emo hits like “Sic Transit Gloria… Glory Fades” and “Seventy Times Seven” with distorted guitars and rasping emotional screams in order to pull you in and leave you begging for more. “Mene” gives the Brand New fan hope, hope that they haven’t forgotten where they came from, all the while showing that as always Brand New has an ever progressing style. Given if they release a new album it probably won’t all be like this, but it gives a good indication of what is yet to come.
