Summertime is the best time of year for concerts.  Nothing beats watching one of your favorite bands perform, especially outside with warm breeze passing through.

My summer was packed with amazing concerts, but ending it with one of my favorite bands was just so perfect.  On Tuesday, September 3rd, Mumford and Sons played to a full house (including lawn seating) at the Marcus Amphitheater in Milwaukee, WI.  One of nine dates, this show was a stop on the Full English Tour, an extension of Mumford and Sons’ Gentlemen of the Road tour.  Bear’s Den and The Vaccines, both English based bands, opened up the show.  The collection of haunting melodies and upbeat rock made for the perfect intro.

Mumford and Sons entered a darkened stage as thousands of people screamed in a confusion of excitement and insanity.  The harmony of “Sigh No More” began to play, with vocals soon following.  The stage remained unlit for the first few minutes, building the crowd’s anticipation, with only the sporadic flashing of every cell phone light, revealing hints of the stage’s occupants.   Finally, the stage burst to life with a flash of light and the crowd rejoiced in a roar of cheers.

Mumford and Sons’ set list was the perfect combination of first time favorites and their latest hits.  One of my favorite songs to see them perform live is “Dust Bowl Dance”.  This time around, the energy on stage was amped up for this angry song when Ben Lovett, on piano, threw his microphone stand almost completely off stage and Marcus Mumford, on lead vocals and drums, kicked over his drum set.  Who doesn’t love a little theatrical touch every once in awhile?

The concert came to a close after an encore set, including a collaboration of Bear’s Den, The Vaccines and Mumford and Sons for a cover of The Beatles’, “Come Together”.  Like one big sing along, the crowd joined in, filling the entire amphitheater with an unmatchable sound, celebrating the end of a season and incredible music.
