What can we say about LIGHTS? I don’t even know where to begin. There’s too much to say. But what I can’t say is anything negative. She was on the cover of our fourth issue and she’s an artist I have supported since 2010. It’s nearly impossible to even think of anything negative that may surround her except for how envious I am of her talent. But I don’t think that exactly counts…

As I strolled into one of my favorite north side venues, Lincoln Hall, all was silent. The vibe was unlike anything I had ever felt. Feeling drowsy from a busy day, I ordered a sugar free redbull and entered the doors. To my astonishment, there were seats laid out in the venue. Since it was a sold out show I thought it was going to be a sweaty ball pit of must (normal show stuff, eh?). This was not the case. There was about… 150 people in Lincoln Hall on this night. 90% of which were seated comfortably in chairs patiently awaiting for LIGHTS to begin a nearly two hour set.

As she stepped onstage all was silent and anxious. She picked up her acoustic and was joined by her partner in crime, Kevin Cox, who flawlessly played the chello all night. During the set, our writer Anjel Lopez, leaned over and said, “I feel like I am in the chuch of Lights.” This is the most fitting explanation I can think of. This small and intimate gathering was beautifully lit by just a few stage lights and beautiful lanterns.

The set was composed of songs new and old, most of which being off of her recent full-length release, Siberia Acoustic. There was a lot of joking around, talking with fans and receiving of gifts (which she was insanely flattered about). A highlight of the night being her speaking about BJORK and how much of an influence she is, as well as how even after all is done and there is nothing left, music is in our minds. I probably should have written down all of these quotes because they were truly inspiring. I probably just ruined them (sorry, LIGHTS!). It was one of the most intimate and lovely shows I have experienced in quite some time. LIGHTS has proved to the world once again that she is a musician of many talents. We’re certainly excited to see what she comes up with next!

Sadly enough this was the very last date of the Siberia Acoustic Tour. BUT you can pick up Siberia Acoustic right here on iTunes or even stream it all on Spotify!
