Camisado – Faceless

Unsigned Baltimore Maryland’s Camisado have put a lot of effort into making their new full length the one that exposes them to the world. With an early album stream on Alternative Press, and a kickstarter program to fund the album, Camisado have been really pushing the edge of what an unsigned DIY band can accomplish. Now just a few days after the release of their new record Faceless the jury is back in with a ruling. Five-piece projects, built on the combination of bright chorus’s and bouncy heavy guitar riffs, Camisado have succeeded with Faceless.
The record begins with “Straight Jacket”, a straight to the point post hardcore track, no introduction; no bullshit samples, just straight into the meat of the music, an approach I respect. With heavy guitar riffs, the bright hidden sonic layer of a choral harmony hidden in the background, and an appreciation for speedy guitar parts along side the standard breakdowns Camisado are taking formulaic songwriting and giving it their own twist. The fourth track “In Your Veins” is my personal favorite. Beginning with an ominous sample of what sounds like a chorus of monks creating this ominous almost medieval fantasy vibe, the track immediately resonates with the album art. “In Your Veins” however does not die their, with the greatest contrast between the verse and chorus tones, a variety of screaming techniques and a catchy chorus line “In Your Veins” has me hooked. After just one listen through I’ singing along: “I’m choking on my words”. As we arrive in the bridge of the song and the screaming moves to the background of the mix and the brilliant sonic textures of the keyboard symphony sample brings back the ominous and almost regal feeling to the music I feel as though I’m running through the back streets of a castle, constantly struggling with the evil force challenging my will.
When asked to review this new Camisado record I was honestly a little put off. Who were these unsigned rockers, and what could possibly make them worth listening to in a market saturated with generic and formulaic post hardcore acts. Well I stand here shocked, impressed, and advocating for the Baltimore based group. On the backs of their own tired, worn bodies, Camisado have created a record I will be listening to for quite some time. Filled with ominous, heavy, and powerful tones, and an appreciation for the beauty in the dark, Faceless is incredible. Overall I would give this record four out five stars, a record worthy of your ears. Listen to “In Your Veins”, and “You Still Haunt Me”.
