Killswitch Engage

Killswitch Engage brought an end to our heartache with their energetic show at the O2 Academy Brixton. Celebrating the recent release of their 8th studio album, Atonement, the metalcore titans filled the 5K capacity venue with fans young and old, some of which who have clearly been following the band’s journey since its formation 20 years ago in Massachusetts.

The show kicked off with the debut single from Atonement called “Unleashed,” which got fans hyped and fully engaged with the show from the first second. With crowd surfers eager to make it to the front within the first 2 minutes of the show, you immediately knew this was going to be an exciting night for all.

The set continued with a good balance of old and new which nicely represented the rich repertoire Killswitch Engage have built over the years. Vocalist Jesse Leach mastered the entire stage, alongside guitarists Joel Stroetzel and Adam Dutkiewicz, bassist Mike D’Antonio and drummer Justin Foley- each giving it 101% while making fans feel like they were the only things that mattered. They were clearly having fun on stage which was greatly reflected and mirrored by the audience.

The show drew to a close with “The End of Heartache” which put Killswitch Engage on the radar back in 2004, followed by “Strength of the Mind” and Dio’s “Holy Diver” cover. Supporting Killswitch Engage were Revocation and Tenside who both justified their premium spots supporting this great band with mind blowing sets.

Going out on a Sunday night doesn’t sit well with most 9-5 workers- especially when it comes to having the Monday blues. However, in this case, I would opt-in to see Killswitch Engage any day of the week, and I assume anyone who attended the O2 Academy that night would wholeheartedly agree.
