After numerous previous releases, Kurt Travis is out with yet another piece of work, There’s A Place I Want To Take You. The Blue Swan Records signed artist may be familiar to some of you from his previous projects as vocalist of the bands Dance Gavin Dance and A Lot Like Birds. Taking a different approach to his solo album than with his previous band projects, some could think that this is a completely different person. This Kurt Travis album has more of a dreamy sound, making your experience while listening to it be unlike anything before.

He begins with a longer track titled “Too Much Space” which features Andrés, who is also featured in “Hometown” on this album. This song sets the mood for what the album will feel like. It gives you the feeling of being at a beach that is not too sunny, yet not too gloomy. Then it transitions to feeling as though you are at a concert, with lights flashing along with the sound of banging drums. Collectively, the album itself is like this – you feel a sense of relaxation, but can also feel as if you are at a high-energy concert during some moments.

“Easy Peasy” starts off with a longer instrumental intro. It is more of an easygoing song with a nice guitar melody to it. This song describes a personal struggle in its lyrics, “But man, it just sometimes takes so long to get out,” and “So I smoke a little something, but it doesn’t help me,” Travis expressing his deep emotions of feeling like it is difficult to get up and go on sometimes.

Going into track five, “It’s You” brings you back to the feeling of the first song on the album. You are walking down the sidewalk at the beach, bobbing your head along with the music. The guitar in the song gives off some “chill” vibes while the percussion of the drums help set a foot-tapping pace.

“Lewis” is the very last song of this album. The album leaves you with an upbeat track, yet the lyrics convey the complete opposite. With lyrics like, “Can we put the pieces back so we can be together?,” missing someone you care about, but are no longer with can be very hard for anymore, giving this song a sense of relatability listeners will be able to identify with. Travis sings in a very powerful voice, “I care about you so much,” conveying truthful feelings listeners can hear ever so clearly in his raw vocals presented on this track.

The album in its entirety is pretty mellow, but for sure has its upbeat moments. It is a well-made album with each track being slightly different than the previous while still managing to keep the same tone throughout the whole album. The mood is set at the very beginning and it continues to be present itself all the way until the end.

This album is more for those who might want to go for a stroll and have music playing in their ears, many of the songs presenting great beats to walk to. Go out and walk to your favorite park (or beach) and maybe sit under a tree and enjoy this album. There’s A Place I Want To Take You will doubtlessly take you to a state of relaxation and peace with its soft sounds.
