Bear Hands – You’ll Pay For This
By Geoff Burns
You’ll Pay For This makes a lot of sense lyrically to those in their late 20s, but Bear Hands, an indie rock quartet hailing from Brooklyn, New York, created the album to make sense to anyone, regardless of their age.
The 12-song record, courtesy of Spensive Sounds, lyrically deals with growing older and having to deal with whatever life throws at you along the way. In “2AM,” vocalist/guitarist Dylan Rau sings, “… but all I want is to forget how old I am” and continues commentary on the same topic in “Too Young” as he sings, “Too young to keep it together, too dumb to know what we wanted.” And with age comes wanting to do something more with your life. Rau reflects on this when he sings, “I’m a piece of shit, it’s a point of pride, I’m the super rich complaining I want more in life” in “Winner’s Circle” and “… just let me work and I will earn it, I want my life to have a purpose, tell me if you think I deserve it” in the album’s closing song, “Purpose Filled Life.”
Co-produced by guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Ted Feldman and James Brown (Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys), the band’s third album mixes a variety of sounds including acoustic and distorted guitars, keyboards and trumpets as well as various computerized sounds to make each track stand out on its own.
You’ll Pay For This might happen to be one of 2016’s best releases to date. Regardless of how long this band has already been around, You’ll Pay For This will definitely take Bear Hands to a new level in their career. So pay attention because there will be great things happening to these guys.
