Not Tonight Josephine – Not Tonight Josephine EP
Review by; Theresa Pham

Not Tonight Josephine’s self-titled EP is the band’s best work to date. The album is well paced, never getting too ahead of itself or slowing down at the wrong times. The songs on this new EP are a bit heavier and more aggressive, yet also seem much more personal than their previous work. Danny Garry’s vocals are powerful and so emotionally charged that at times the passion is explosive. They have put together a vibrant, relevant offering that will hold its own in the scene and is tons of fun to listen to.

I am not the biggest fan of the instrumental opening just because the tone it sets does not make any sense, but I appreciate the idea. “Eyes” and “Don’t Hold Your Tongue” are hands down my favorite track off the album. The empowering lyrics of “Eyes” are impeccable and bring forth a very strong message. The contrast between the clean and harsh vocals is vital and adds even more of an impact to the power. “Don’t Hold Your Tongue” is the black sheep of the album, yet moved me the most. The song is a 180 degree flip from the rest of the album and absolutely heartbreaking. The vocals are also completely clean which make the plea more desperate and honest.

Overall, the EP is strong and shows the band’s untapped potential. The band’s unique way of blending pop-infused post-hardcore with a heavier metal sound, is both adventurous and enjoyable. I hope the band will release a full length soon.

Overall Rating: 3.5/5
