His Dream Of Lions – Part II
Review By Annette Schaefer
His Dream of Lions released their second EP, aptly named Part II, on Dec. 2, 2014. Despite the fact that the band is unsigned and has only been around for almost three years, the five-piece, alternative rock set show some real promise on their new EP.
Part II starts off with the track “The Pace Car” which is probably the catchiest song out of the six tracks with its rhythmic riffs, unique vocals and inescapable chorus. The song is followed by the slightly less catchy, but still intriguing, “Summer Song” with piano laced refrains.
The EP slows down in the middle on “Next Stop, Fall City.” The song opens with mesmerizing inverted chords and builds with the addition of drums and piano making for a lovely ballad amongst the more lively songs.
The last three songs on Part II, “The Ordinary”, “Dreams Equipped” and “All the Salt in the World”, make up the weaker half of the release. The songs all feature the same fun and upbeat feel as the first couple of songs, but for some reason they are just not as memorable. They’re good songs, but they don’t really get stuck in your head.
Overall, this EP shows a lot of talent and potential and is a really fun listen. It will be interesting to see where this band goes as they move forward.
