Track By Track – The Oversight

Recently, we reviewed Boston, MA band, The Oversight‘s, new record, Far From Gone. The band also took the opportunity to give us a break down of the story behind each song, and what they mean to the band. Check it out below!

Collective: This was the final track we wrote for this EP because we needed to tie everything together. It was written one late weeknight in Boston, and even though it was written quickly, it came to be one of the most important tracks on the release. Moving out to Boston was one of the hardest transitions we have ever had; despite living in such an amazing city, it is easy to feel lost & broken. The song is about how much we grew together as friends and band mates; even with the hardships, we have found a new family to help us pull through.

Black & White: Heartache and heartbreak can quickly summarize most of high school; top it off with a nasty combination of teenage angst and cheap liquor, and you have “Black and White”. The chorus references “Morgan” and, “Jack” as friends. The two represent different types of alcohol, and the ups and downs that tend to come as their baggage. For a while it can be fun, but in the end you have to face up to your darkest thoughts and struggles.

Love Is A Fiction: Routines make us feel comfortable. Routines in relationships make us feel secure; however when things fall out of place in those routines, it almost feels unhealthy to share space with the other person. You acquire addictions that feel so good in the moment, but drag the both of you down; and yet, you continue to fall in and out until someone can simply say, goodbye.

When 5 A.M: Call it restless heart syndrome, call it insomnia, call it whatever you like, but there is something that keeps us up at night. We are told “If we get some sleep, we will feel better in the morning”, but the hardest part is actually believing that things really will get better a few hours later. Every time we close our eyes, we’re left with nothing but our thoughts and that is when everything sets in. We stay up late, struggle to stay awake, and lay in bed with exhausted bodies and overworked, run-down minds.

Far From Gone: Whether you’re 30 miles or 3,000 miles away from home, it will feel like a part of you is missing. We latch onto familiar things to help overcome that struggle. But as much as we want to move on, reflection stays in our mind like a mirror, looking back at every memory, and every photograph to only drag us down. It’s not until you find your new family when you can embrace your new surroundings.
