Miike Snow – Happy To You
Album Review by Liz Brossard

I was introduced to the indie-pop band Miike Snow by a friend of mine roughly about a year ago and I have since stayed a fan, With his new album “ Happy To You” to be released on March 27, I feel the same excitement as I did the first time I heard them. If I were to describe the musical stylings of this band I would say that they are something like an 80’s pop band mixed with a band similar to Animal Collective.

“Paddling Out” is one of the singles off of the album and it has a really great balance of indie rock and techno beats that brings about an urge to dance around in your seat.

The song “Devil’s Work” is a much calmer less techno beat song that could almost channel the 70’s rock styling’s of the Beatles or Jim Morrison. You could lay back and listen to this song and just soak in the beats.

This is the sophomore album for this trio and it is a far cry from their first album. The trio left a lot to be desired with the self-titled album. “Happy To You,” is a break from the mundane for the Swedish band and something truly worth the time listening to.

“Happy to you” is a more palatable to listeners who do not care for the techno beats and prefer the indie bands like Kings of Leon or Band of Horses, just to name a couple.

If you were a fan of their self-titled album, then you will be pleasantly surprised by “Happy To You”.  If you are looking for songs like “Animal” off their first album, and more rhythmic melodies with piano undertones then this album is for you.
