X Ambassadors – Love Songs Drug Songs
Reviewed by Haley Black

If you haven’t heard of X Ambassadors yet, you are missing out. But it’s better late than never, right? They just released an EP today called Love Songs Drug Songs, which features a few previously released songs and well as some fresh new tunes for your listening pleasure.

Previously released tracks, “Unconsolable” and “Litost” are definitely fan favorites. If you saw The Host, whether you realized it at the time or not, you heard “Litost” somewhere in the movie soundtrack. It is one of the slightly more stripped down songs that they have recorded, with the sound an acoustic guitar playing in the forefront.

The title track, “Love Songs Drug Songs” is introduced with thudding drums and buzzing synthesizers. The boldness of the song definitely leaves a lasting impression on the six track EP.

“Down With Me” has a very mellow, relaxing vibe, yet contains a catchy melody consistently repeating in the background. “Stranger” really displays vocalist Sam Harris’ incredible vocal range and capability. You can hear a slight raspiness in his voice at times, yet he still has the ability to hit high notes and make it seem effortless.

The final track, “Brother” ends the EP on an epic note. The song itself is very well produced in all aspects, with inspiring lyrics and the perfect symphony of instruments to illustrate them. The soaring guitar riffs and the way the synth flows together with the authentic instruments leaves the track sounding polished.

After listening to this EP, you will surely become an X Ambassadors fan almost instantaneously. If you are in dire need of refreshing, unique new music, then this is a band you are going to want to have on your radar.  If you don’t start hearing these songs on the radio soon among the likes of other mainstream indie-rock artists, I will honestly be shocked.
