Five Albums For A Relationship
Words and Picks by Jenn Stookey

I often find myself doing extremely cliche and old fashioned things at the start of a relationship and making mixed CD’s is one of them. What’s even more embarrassing is that I am guilty of placing the same songs on numerous mixed CD’s for each relationship. These songs come from albums that beg for your attention when you find yourself in the “honeymoon” stage of a relationship or when you have realized you are madly in love with your significant other. However, I must warn you, be very careful when choosing a song from these albums because it would be tragic if a broken relationship ruined your experience with the album for the rest of your life (as a few of my relationships have). But I am here to tell you today some of those albums for which I think are the best to listen to during a lovey-dovey relationship.

Relient K – Five Score And Seven Years Ago
Like I stated before, this is one of those albums where I have shamefully recycled songs and used them on multiple mixed CD’s, but how could I not? This album is home to some of the cutest love songs I have ever heard and it’s almost as if the lyrics are reading my mind. “And I know that it’s so cliche, to tell you that everyday, I spend with you is the new best day of my life” is just one of the out-of-this-world adorable lyrics from their song “Must Have Done Something Right.” You’ll also want to check out the songs “The Best Thing” and “I’m Taking You With Me” for an equally as cute upbeat love song to share with the love of your life.

Never Shout Never – What Is Love?
What Is Love? is another album that bleeds love songs. Some of the songs that I particularly found myself entranced with during a relationship were “Can’t Stand It,” “I Love You 5” and “Jane Doe.” It’s no secret here that Christofer Drew has a way with words when it comes to expressing his heart through melody and this album is the prime example of that.

Stereo Skyline – Stuck On Repeat
I’m not going to lie, this album was my jam during my junior year of high school. If you were a teenage girl during the lifetime of this band, it probably was yours too. They had a way with pop songs that would make you get up and groove, and when they threw in lyrics about a cute-as-a-button relationship it would make your heart swoon. I’m not going to name a few songs that flow with this theme because literally every song on this album is about a young love blossoming. However, some of my favorites are “A Little More Us” and “Me & You.”

Tyler Hilton – The Tracks Of
Some of you may recognize the name Tyler Hilton from his guest starring role on the hit television series, One Tree Hill. But if you didn’t already know, he was a solo artist before his role and still is (currently on tour with Ryan Cabrera and Teddy Geiger). Hilton has a unique sound and this album doesn’t flow along with the other pop albums on this list. I will tell you though, his music and lyrics are synonymously breathtaking when it comes to songs about love. From this album, take a listen to “You, My Love” and “Kiss On Me.”

Hellogoodbye – Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! And More!
This indie power pop gang has some serious talent behind the lyrics of love songs and accompanying sounds. Each song on this album tells a different love story and hopefully you can relate to at least one of them. This is truly a collection for the full heart and bursting love birds. As you all probably know the song “Here (In Your Arms),” I also recommend “Oh, It Is Love,” “Baby, It’s Fact” and especially in this age of digital communication “I Saw It On Your Keyboard.”
