Sacramento-based hardcore punk band Dance Gavin Dance brought their “Return of the Robot Tour” to Atlanta on June 8, a fitting name nodding to their long-running “Robot with Human Hair” saga – nine tracks deep and starting in 2006. The night was stacked with energy from start to finish, with Dwellings, Belmont, and The Home Team setting the tone.
The Home Team

The Home Team marked their biggest Atlanta crowd yet, lighting up the 3,000-capacity venue. “Who here likes to shake their ass to rock music?” they asked. Obviously, the answer was “All of us!” Longtime admirers of Dance Gavin Dance, their spot on the lineup felt full-circle and well-earned.
Dance Gavin Dance

Dance Gavin Dance leaned into their funk-meets-heavy style, opening with newer tracks “Speed Demon” and “War Machine,” before diving into deeper cuts. Lead vocalist Andrew Wells asked the crowd, “Who here has been a fan of Dance Gavin Dance since they were in high school?” Lots of hands went up, including Andrew’s! The setlist was a treat for those day-one fans, including “Blue Dream,” “The Backwards Pumpkin Song,” “Burning Down the Nicotine Armoire,” and two chapters of the Robot saga.
Dance Gavin Dance’s headlining set was pure chaos in the best way. Crowd surfers flew, pits opened up, and the band fed off every bit of that kinetic energy. It was a celebration of their weird, winding legacy, and the kind of show that leaves your ears ringing and your heart pounding.
