No one enjoys waiting for their favorite band to release new music, even more a new album. But once that new masterpiece is out, fans have the opportunity to enjoy something new and be excited about it as they listen to the new music from their favorites.
Yes, it has been almost six whole years since The Story So Far released an entire album, but the wait for a new record is nearly over. Via Pure Noise Records, the four-piece band is finally releasing a brand-new full-length album this Friday, June 21 titled I Want To Disappear. It’s new, it’s fresh, it’s moving.
With 10 total tracks, three of them put out as singles ahead of the album release, there is plenty to listen to and appreciate after a long time of waiting for this brilliant work — it has been worth the wait.
And so, the album opens with “All This Time,” which may surprise some as this song doesn’t ease its way into the album but instead starts at full force right away. It was also one of the singles, so fans won’t be completely surprised with it. There are fun surprises yet to come, though, this is only the start.
This record encompasses dynamics in the way that the tracks sound different from one another, yet they still have the same feel between them, making them come together to sound like one whole united album. There is some experimenting that can be heard but fans will also be able to distinguish The Story So Far’s traditional sound throughout the 10 tracks — it’s balanced out and pop punk fans will still appreciate this. Each song, though, is unique on its own.
In this new album, it is heard how the band has grown musically and personally as individuals through the music and lyrics. It contains different themes ranging from loss to pain to acceptance. Listeners may relate to at least one of the songs, allowing them to feel as though they’re not the only one in the world feeling their emotions, which is a good reminder.
As listeners go through the album track by track, they’ll be exposed to the different elements portrayed in each song. Then closing with the album’s title track, this acoustic tune includes soothing vocals from Parker Cannon even with the raw, truthful lyrics such as “’Cause I’m not sure if I love you.”
This new addition to the band’s discography fits well with their past work. There is so much to explore in I Want To Disappear while still enjoying and appreciating their roots. The Story So Far gives their fans something new but slightly familiar for them to make this their emotional album of the summer.
