After a change in set times, Lewis Capaldi took to Birmingham’s Utilita Arena at 9 pm. As the intro music played, graphics were cast across an onstage screen to reveal Lewis in an all-white outfit as he started to perform “Forget Me” which is taken from his upcoming album.
The set went off with a bang as mid-song saw an explosion of white confetti blasted over the arena, which I think came as a shock to many, The moment resulted in Lewis commenting, “It felt like we killed about four people in the front row with that confetti, so, sorry about that,” as he cheekily grinned at the audience.
After performing “Forget Me” and “Forever” the Scottish singer asked fans: “Who has plans to have sex later?” to which the audience cheered. Lewis continued to say “Likely ‘no one’ as ‘only virgins’ would be at a Lewis Capaldi concert on a Thursday night” before stating he too was a virgin.
During “Lost On You,” Lewis continued with his humor by burping halfway through the slow ballad, apologizing and getting his band to start it again; as he continued with the song, a fan screamed, “I Love you Lewis” and he quickly replied in a joking manner, “Not the time.”
During his set, Lewis played the classics he is known for like “Before You Go,” “Bruises,” and “Hold Me” and tracks off of his new album Broken by Desire to be Heavily Sent.
As the night continued, so did many laughs. When you go to see Lewis live, not only are you getting a talented musician, but you’re also getting a stand-up comedian. Whether he realizes it or not, Lewis’ humor will have you laughing the night away.
To round up the night, he finished his set with “Someone You Loved” and said, “This was the most unhinged gig on tour yet,” after having several phones, a love letter and a bra launched in his direction throughout the night.
