Emo Nite

Neumos // Seattle, Washington // June 17, 2022

Review by Rachael Dowd

Emo Nite made its return to Seattle’s Neumos on June 17. The event, which has become a monthly Friday night staple in the city’s Capital Hill neighborhood, once again brought all emo-loving music fans together for another energy-filled night full of booze, laughs, and plenty of ‘00s hits.

What once was a well-kept secret is now a mainstream success. Over the past few years, Emo Nite has found its place in the niche nightlife scene, offering well-curated playlists to those wanting to relive their teenage years over and over again. Following Emo Nite’s Coachella debut this year, the night has become a frequent occasion in many U.S. cities.

Playing signature tunes from the likes of My Chemical Romance, Yellowcard, Cartel, Emery, The All-American Rejects and Paramore, Emo Nite has a song out there for everyone. Whether you grew up listening to emo, pop-punk, pop-rock or hardcore, the Emo Nite DJs play it all – no genre is ever left out.

More recently, Emo Nite has started incorporating new songs into the playlist from artists like Meet Me @ The Altar and Charlotte Sands. Although we commend Emo Nite for trying to introduce new music to a room full of punk and emo fans, the songs have yet to resonate with Emo Nite goers and, instead, result in lull periods full of drink refills and bathroom breaks.

Despite this, however, Seattle Emo Nite fans are always in high spirits, especially when Sleeping With Sirens and Pierce The Veil ring through the speakers. Two of the most memorable moments of the night were created courtesy of “If You Can’t Hang” and “King For A Day,” which resulted in massive mosh pits and a stage full of attendees singing their hearts out.

Emo Nite goers can always expect a few curveballs in the playlist. This time around, the DJs included Turnstile’s “HOLIDAY,” Bring Me The Horizon’s “Shadow Moses,” and even Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U.” Although these songs were reasonably unexpected due to their release dates and fanbases, they proved to pay off as dedicated listeners of these artists took their moment to shine and passionate sing along to the unexpected songs.

Whether you’re looking to feel nostalgic vibes, let your aggression out in a mosh pit or simply have a fun night out with friends, Emo Nite has your back. And if you’re in Seattle and bummed about missing this show, don’t panic. Emo Nite is returning to Neumos on Saturday, July 9.
