After releasing their sophomore album, don’t you wanna be glad?, earlier this year, the duo that makes up Super Whatevr began traveling around North America on their headlining tour pastel is emo tour last month. This tour that supported their newest album contained 21 total stops across the U.S. and one stop in Canada. Accompanying them on the road were bands Happy and Chapel and the three bands recently made their way to Portland, Oregon on March 4 to perform at Lola’s Room.
The first opener Happy is a band that for sure got the crowd feeling “happy“ to be there and excited for the show. With their bubbly personalities, they were able to achieve creating a positive atmosphere within the venue. They were a great fit for the lineup as a whole. When Chapel began playing, the crowd went wild, for many of the attendees were already fans of the group. The band’s energy was so lively throughout their entire set. Members in the audience danced along to the music as if they were on an actual dance floor.
Moments before Super Whatevr hit the stage, there was intro music that played through the speakers, causing the venue to be filled with excitement. “yours truly.,” a song from their latest album, was the first they performed. Throughout the entirety of their set, Super Whatevr got the crowd to jump, clap, and move around quite a bit. There was even a time during the night when frontman Skyler McKee not only sat himself down on the stage floor, but also had the crowd sit down on the venue’s floor, all of which helped to create a more intimate setting to play a few more songs.
Other tracks performed by the band were “better.,” “melancholyism.,” and “Kathrin With a K.” Each different performance created a different atmosphere, showing the versatility Super Whatevr has in their music. In all, both McKee and drummer Chase Vernon provided a night full of laughter and deep emotions that were shared within the entire venue. It was an unforgettable night for everyone.
Although the tour may be over, Super Whatevr are not ready to stop touring across the country quite yet. They are set to join Stand Atlantic and Trash Boat on tour over the summer and tickets can be purchased here when they go on sale tomorrow Friday, March 13th.
