Honey Creek are an eclectic brand of what happens with The Starting Line & The Wonder Years grew up during their sophomore records in 2019. Hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the band formed in 2016 with a singular goal of playing a basement show. Finding themselves in the throws of D.I.Y., the band have stayed true to their original goal and are “determined to leave their mark on basements across the world.”
Their track “The Time it Took” is a catchy, chord filled mid-to-fast tempo track with upbeat, silvery vocals and the cooing backup melody any of the best pop punk songs of a generation could produce. Plus, the more mature lyrical content makes this a grown version of what the band’s idols have produced.
Listen to the track and read a quote from the band below.
A sure repeat track about either catching up or moving on after a turbulent year, “The Time It Took” is a relatable, chord heavy track with lyrics like, “I’m worth more than all of my excuses.” The melodies and back-up vocals blend together well enough where the staleness of previous pop punk nostalgic moments have fallen short for other bands. Yet, Honey Creek seem to have a “what you see is what you get” attitude and that is just enough to show there is some fight left for pop punk.
‘The Time It Took’ is a song about how the passage of time is the only thing that can help you get over certain problems. The title of the track draws inspiration from our 2018 E.P “The Time It Takes” and acts as an epilogue to that release. This song is a reflection of a journey we experienced throughout a very transformative year. It features a guest appearance from our friend Alex Dahle of the band Knavery. Alex was crucial to not only to the writing process of this song, but also helping us get to where we are today as a band.
