Hopeless Records band Tiny Moving Parts is currently on a North American headlining tour in support of their latest album, breathe, that was released this past September. Joining them on this tour are Standards and fredo disco. Recently, the tour made its stop in Portland, OR at Bossanova Ballroom on November 3 where they were also joined by local dream punk band Glacier Veins.

Glacier Veins opened up the show with their dream-like pop punk sound that was full of energy. Their music sounded bouncy, something to get the crowd moving. Next was Standards, a math rock band. Standards consists of solely guitar and drums, no lyrics. Despite the lack of vocals, the crowd had an amazing time listening and bobbing their heads along to their music. They cheered the band on throughout their set, clearly wanting more. fredo disco was the last opener, a four-piece indie rock band. As a band that sounds greatly cheery in an indie rock way, they achieve in creating a setting filled with energy that gets eager fans awaiting the headliner hyped up. The three openers built an atmosphere made up of total excitement from the audience.

When it was time for Tiny Moving Parts, the crowd went wild. The stage set was made up of beautiful flowers on opposite sides of the stage, all different colors. They kicked off their set with an energetic performance of “The Midwest Sky.” The people in the audience seemed to be lost in the music right from the very start. By the end of the first song, even Dylan Mattheisen, lead vocalist of the band, was covered in sweat from jumping around onstage so much.

Throughout the night, members from the audience would shout out lyrics from the songs, creating an intensity in the venue that is hard to explain to those that did not experience it. It was even more special when Mattheisen would step away from the mic and let fans yell out the lyrics alongside him so that they all could be heard – those were some very memorable moments for everyone in attendance. Unlike many other high-energy shows, there was not only moshing that took place during a couple of songs, but Tiny Moving Parts went so hard with their performance that mosh pits occurred throughout almost the entirety of the concert.

With 14 songs plus an encore, the venue was occupied with a presence of comfort with one another and acceptance of the band by including the audience so much during the set. Songs such as “Applause,” “Sundress,” and “It’s Too Cold Tonight” and ones from their new album like “Bloody Nose” and “Icicles (Morning Glow)” were performed that night. The guitarist from Standards was even brought onstage to perform with them during one of their songs and the audience loved that.

The band gave it their all and it showed. They created a space where everyone there could sing along, dance, and even mosh. Their stage presence and set were on point — there was a positive feeling all night and the stage was appealing to look at with the colorful flowers that covered it, helping to create something original.

There are more dates left on this tour, and you will not want to miss it. Tiny Moving Parts put on a show that will keep you wanting more at the end. You can grab your tickets here and when you go, make sure to bring all of your energy and more.
