After two years, the Fearless Records signed pop punk band Grayscale has created another album called Nella Vita. The album’s title translates to “In Life” from Italian which without a doubt represents the whole album. This 12-track record is full of emotional and even heartbreaking storytelling so one must be prepared for it.

Grayscale puts out songs that are made up of lyrics relating to love, addiction, sex, and, in general, feelings that are felt throughout life. The five piece band knows just how to entertain their listeners with heartfelt lyrics yet with sounds that make listeners want to dance in their seats. Once you dive into these songs, there is no turning back – you will be drawn into the music by the heavy yet widely relatable lyrics.

Grayscale jumps in right away with their first song off the album, “Just Right.” The upbeat, “happy” sounding instrumentals do not entirely represent, or reflect, the song. “Let’s take it back to the start,” are lyrics in this song that Collin Walsh, lead singer of Grayscale, sings about wanting to be with someone again. “Just Right” is definitely about thinking back to a time where two people were together, but there are still feelings lingering inside of one, making them want to go back to where the two first began.

“In Violet” is one of the four singles released ahead of the album that includes a music video that was also released before. With this song, Walsh expresses the feeling of being in pain, but wanting to be in a better place in his head. His vocals in the choruses of this track are very strong and heavy – the listener can hear the pain in his voice. There is also the expression that represents the time when he will die. He does not want others to mourn over his death, but to be together and remember him in a positive way.

One of the heaviest tracks from Nella Vita is “Painkiller Weather.” A song about being in love with someone, there is also a complication. The person who is loved deals with addiction. There is a struggle in loving that person, but it does teach the other patience and they try to help them as much as they can. The music in this song is more lively, quite the opposite of its lyrics. Some may relate to this song if they have been with someone who battles addiction and stuck with them through rough times.

The final song on the album is “Tommy’s Song.” Almost five minutes in length, Walsh heartbreakingly sings about remembering and missing a person, a personal story that Walsh revealed recently is about his cousin who took his own life. With this track, Walsh is able to let out his feelings, expressing his grief. Some listeners may be relate to this song in some way especially if they have lost a loved one in the past, making this track incredibly heavy and impactful.

Nella Vita is one of those albums that listeners can relate to on a whole other level. There could possibly be tears while listening, reminiscing about a situation or a person they may have loved in the past, or currently still love. With the 12 tracks, Nella Vita is a journey that listeners will go on from start to finish. Grayscale succeeds in creating a masterpiece that reflects real life and gives hope that things will be okay. Sit or lie down with some headphones, maybe even grab a tissue or two, and go on this ride with Grayscale because sometimes in life, you just need something to relate to.
