Some may call her the queen of Shoegaze/Noise Pop/Dream Pop/Ethereal Wave, whatever it might be, Tamaryn gave an outstanding set at The Echoplex in Los Angeles. Following the release of her fourth studio album release, Dreaming The Dark, Tamaryn’s presence came upon us with great elegance and appreciation, for it had been quite awhile since she took the stage in her current hometown.
The opening song couldn’t have been more perfect. “I Won’t Be Found” came up creeping from the darkness, quickly spreading its love spells on the audience as everyone slumped back in their shoes and gazed up with wide eyes. We were preparing ourselves for a night filled with dark synths and heavenly melodic vocals.
As the night went on, life couldn’t have felt more like a dream. We were amidst, arguably, the most beautiful vocal chords existing in the Shoegaze world. Only drawing songs from her last two studio albums, Tamaryn did not get into the deeper stuff. I can’t come up with an explanation for this, but, nonetheless, I was not disappointed. Artists get to decide what goes on their set list and if they don’t feel like playing their older stuff then they don’t have to, it’s as simple as that.
In this case, Tamaryn really got to share her newest album with us, Dreaming The Dark, and from that, we were able to build a true relationship with the album out of sight of a memorable performance. Must not forget how magnificent it was to see the songs from Cranekiss played live. Reliving what it felt like in 2015 gave all the nostalgic feels to the night.
Tamaryn chose to end the night with “Intruder (Waking Up),” and with that song, I was complete with who and what I saw that night within the walls of The Echoplex. I thoroughly enjoyed my night with the Queen of Indie Rock.
