The Drums

La Santa // Santa Ana, CA // April 24th, 2019

The crowd anxiously awaiting were young and prosperous. They were also taking advantage of every moment they could to sing along with every lyric known. So when the very first line, “And days go by and I never think of you,” you bet everyone in that building were singing along.

The energy from the show surged through my camera as the pushing came on stronger by those behind, but, hey, I wasn’t complaining- it made for better shots. As you can tell by the gallery, if The Drums didn’t exist, we’d have a lot less vibrant world.

Johnny Pierce was taking the stage with his blissful dance moves for the duration of the night. How can you see the lead singer dance and not want to join? At least that was the thought of those beautiful youth who jumped on the stage and started dancing along with the band so innocently only to be escorted off by security. It was a good attempt though. Filled with excitement and anticipation, La Santa, the show’s venue, rocked Wednesday night in Santa Ana, California.

The Drums recently released their fifth full studio album, Brutalism. This night was the first of many shows coming up on their North American tour, which began in April and will end this August in Seattle. Their new album shows maturity while still maintaining the classic Drums presence; it will get your head moving, but also your heart feeling. I will say Johnny, with much confidence, has written his best lyrics yet.
