From the very first note, Lewis Capaldi knows how to captivate an audience. Ahead of the release of his debut album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, out May 17th, fans and industry folk alike gathered at Public Arts in downtown Manhattan for a showcase performance from the Scotsman. Filled with the kind of heartbreak you can’t fake, Capaldi’s voice instantly captures the attention and emotions of anyone in his presence, making him one of the most captivating artists to come out of the UK in recent years. Playing new material off of his forthcoming album, Lewis also treated everyone in attendance to a stripped down performance of his hit single “Someone You Loved” which has spent weeks in the #1 spot on the UK Singles chart.

If his beautiful voice wasn’t enough for everyone to fall in love with him, he is also ridiculously funny! Gaining attention over the years on social media for his hilarious videos featuring silly and self-deprecating humor, Lewis is as funny in person as he is on the internet. Cracking jokes throughout his set, he constantly joked about the irony of his humor against his music. His six-song set was impressively filled with poetic sadness, making all of those in the room eager to eventually see him perform a full-set when he returns to the states this June. I was so excited to have been able to witness the birth of a star. Already chart topping in the UK, I can’t wait to see Capaldi’s trajectory as he brings his music stateside.

Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent is out May 17th!
