Since forming back in 2003, Liverpool-based band The Wombats have come a long way and this weekend will mark yet another triumph in the band’s decorated career. As one of their biggest headlining shows to date, The Wombats will be bringing their music to life inside Wembley’s historic The SSE Arena, playing to thousands of their biggest fans who have supported them over the years through their evolving sound and rapid growth into mainstream music.
Over the years, we have seen The Wombats transform as both musicians and performers, transitioning from sold out clubs to headlining festivals. Proving just how far the band has come in the 15 years they have been together, this weekend will not only be a milestone in their career, but a celebration for all they have accomplished.
With their latest album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, having been released just under a year ago, attendees can expect to hear a number of brand new songs including fan favourites “Cheetah Tongue” and “Bee-Sting,” both past singles from the 2018 album.
The two-hour performance will serve fans of all kinds including those that have been with the band since the 2007 release of The Wombats Proudly Present…A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation, the set list likely to include the album’s most popular tracks “Moving to New York,” “Kill the Director” and “Let’s Dance to Joy Division.”
With vocalist and guitarist Matthew Murphy at the forefront, if past shows are any indication of what to expect for this Friday’s performance, fans can expect an energetic, confetti-filled night that will span the band’s entire discography of material, songs from each album likely to be included in the set list including 2011’s “Jump into the Fog” and 2015’s “Greek Tragedy” and “Be Your Shadow.”
Whether you’ve been lucky enough to see The Wombats over the approaching two decades they have been making music or have been waiting for the right time to see them, this Friday’s show at Wembley’s The SSE Arena is not one to miss.
