The Misery Will Find You Tour with The Amity Affliction, Senses Fail, Silent Planet and Belmont hit New York City last week. Time Square’s Playstation Theater was about to be transformed into one massive pit for the evening.

The crowd, clad in flannel shirts and Vans were patiently waiting for the show to begin when pop punk newcomers, Belmont, graced the stage. The Chicago-based band played a short, yet energetic set before handing the mic over the Los Angeles metalcore band, Silent Planet. The band, who had made waves nearly three years ago on their first run of the Vans Warped Tour, captivated the crowd, seeing the first of many crowd surfers that evening. Preaching vulnerability, acceptance, self-love and passion, Silent Planet’s performances are always ones to watch and Tuesday’s show was no different.

The night was well into the pop-punk mayhem when the first headliner of the night began. The pop-punk powerhouses that are Senses Fail, stormed the stage with no messing around. Buddy Nielsen, lead vocalist, wasted no time getting the energy high with his high kicks, salsa dancing and shoulder shimmying in between verses. After the conclusion of the third song, the iconic triangle kick that Nielsen sticks every show arrived, followed by a swift microphone swirl and toss. After burning the same amount of calories I probably burn in one whole day, in a matter of three songs, Nielsen and the rest of the band took the energy up a few notches. A circle pit erupted in the middle of the crowd and a mass exodus of fans at the back of the venue was launched forward towards the barricade.

Following Senses Fail, the energy inside Playstation Theater barely lowered. The Amity Affliction, who I had never seen before, used a minimal stage setup to showcase their raw talents. With blue toned lights and a single fog machine on each side of the stage, the band created an eerily beautiful performance of songs from their most recent record, Misery. Typically, during double headlining shows like Tuesday night’s performance, many fans would split after seeing their band of choice perform and that is exactly what I was expecting to happen on Tuesday. However, a record amount of fans stayed for The Amity Affliction’s performance. The venue was packed to the brim, with the venue’s back seated section filled to near capacity. It was definitely a performance for the books.
