Hailing from Bristol, indie-pop band Superlove is one to keep on your radar in 2019. Recently formed and having only two released tracks, Superlove’s unique take on indie-pop is already making noise in the UK music scene. We recently caught up with the band to talk about their history, their latest single “Book A Holiday” and what 2019 has in store for them.
What is the story behind Superlove? How did you all get together and form?
Superlove fell into place incredibly quickly and smoothly. Alex (drums) and Jon (guitar) had been friends for years prior and Alex met Jake (bass) just through the local music scene. After feeling inspired by an LTA show and wanting to try something new, Jon got in touch with Alex who got Jake involved to complete the lineup.
What was the inspiration behind “Book A Holiday” and do you think it’s the track that best encompasses Superlove’s sound?
“Book A Holiday” was inspired by that week away in sunny Spain with your mates, just having a laugh in the sun, which pretty much sums up the song. It’s got hooks and playful lyrics so we think it’s a pretty good representation of our sound!
How has the music scene (or lack thereof) in Bristol impacted Superlove’s overall image and sound?
There are some absolutely amazing musicians in Bristol, both established and up and coming, which is great to see. While inspiring in their own rights, we started Superlove as we felt our image and sound filled a gap in the current scene.
You are heading out on the road with Dream State in March. What are you most looking forward to about the tour and what can fans expect from a Superlove set?
We’re all looking forward to just playing and getting our name out there. The Dream State lot are absolutely lovely so it’s gonna be a great time touring with them. From our set, people can expect a lot of energy, the tunes we’ve already put out plus some new ones and just a lot of fun overall!
When can we all expect to hear more music from Superlove in 2019?
We’ve just released “Book A Holiday” this month, but the wheels are already in motion for our next release! Expect more information early this Spring.
What are you most looking forward to accomplishing in 2019?
As a relatively new band, we’re looking forward to getting as many shows and festivals under our belt as possible. Our first ever tour as a band with Dream State in March is going to be the perfect way to kick things off!
