Interview by Allison Hade
Calling the Journey’s Left Foot stage home this summer on Warped Tour, we recently caught up with Jule Vera vocalist Ansley Newman about their upcoming run on Warped, what fans can expect from their TEI workshops this summer, and more!
You must be so excited to hit the road on Warped Tour – do you have any goals for the tour this summer?
Our goals for the summer are to make new fans, meet and make friends with more bands and to always improve on stage. We always want to have a really interesting and unique live set and playing it over and over on Warped Tour really helps to perfect it.
Jule Vera’s no stranger to touring. What have you learned from your time on the road?
We’ve learned a lot on all the tours we’ve done. We’ve learned how to communicate better to our fans or to make new fans. We really try to connect with them on social media and then in person. We’ve also learned a lot from all the artists that we’ve played with, seeing how they interact on stage, to their fans, etc.
What can fans expect on this year’s Warped?
This year on Warped Tour we’re playing all new songs from our upcoming album, we’ll have new merch, and a brand new live show!
You are doing some Think TEI workshops on Warped, what inspired you to introduce us into the wonderful world of the ukulele?
I really love ukulele, I think it’s such a fun instrument to learn how to play. We wanted to show people that ukulele doesn’t just mean Hawaiian music, you can use it in pop rock music, too!
Another Think TEI session you are leading is “finding confidence.” Without giving too much away, how do you find confidence?
Surrounding yourself with other positive influences and encouraging people will help a lot. Also, listening to encouraging music and maybe learning a song on an instrument and being able to play music that inspires and lifts you up is a great way to start.
You recently released your new song, “Lifeline.” What inspired this single? Is this the direction the album will take?
We wrote that playing off the idea of your lifeline on your palm, then it kind of turned into more of a “I’ll do what I love to do, not what people are telling me to do” idea. The album is going to have songs that are similar in feel to “Lifeline,” but also some that are a different style all together. We have some lighter acoustic ones and then some full production songs.
