Be Yourself: A Playlist By Toyko

0

Toyko is an electro-indie duo who will be releasing their debut EP this summer. Their first single “Stronger Love” shot straight to the top of the HypeM charts, and “Like What I Like” is the ultimate summer jam. On the inspiration behind the track, Toyko said: “I wanted something that speaks to everyone’s weird side and re-assures them to stay true to themselves – to live loud, and like what you like.”

The duo have teamed up with Highlight to bring you a summer playlist full of jams about being yourself and showing the world it’s okay to be different. Check it out below with comments from Toyko.

EDEN – “rock + roll”

EDEN is one of our favorite up and comers that’s killing it.  Although he references his influences – like Hendrix and Sinatra, this track feels like a rock-pop anthem for all the independent thinkers out there.

kiiara – “Feels”

We’ve been following Kiiara and her producer Felix Snow from their first release and have thoroughly enjoyed watching their success snowball.  This track feels like taking a valium at a dessert pool party, definitely a realm where you can tune in and drift off.

Mikey Mike – “Doin’ Me”

Mikey Mike’s street marketing campaign in Los Angeles is such a brilliant move, I get excited every time I see one of his billboards these days.  This track screams ‘I don’t care what you think’ and fits perfectly with the “be yourself” theme.

Queen – “Don’t Stop Me Now”

My girlfriend and I like to play this song and dance around like fools.  Also, Freddie Mercury….. say no more.

Fleetwood Mac – “Everywhere”

This song is great and after seeing it in this ad. I couldn’t help but think that it was very fitting for all you independent ponies out there.

Tennyson x Mr. Carmack – “Tuesday

Tennyson is a great example of an artist that marches to their own beat. From jazz to trap to hip hop they are unafraid to bring unique sounds to every song. Tuesday is a recent collaboration with producer Mr Carmack, and is an fantastically chill work.

Chairlift – “Ch-Ching”

I absolutely adore Chairlift’s ability to be so creative, catchy, and downright strange at the same. Ch-ching is a great song that really displays the band’s distinct personality. Definitely check out the video as well for some interesting choreography.

Empress Of – “Woman Is a Word”

Right off the bat this song is great ear candy. But it’s the unique vocals and strong delivery that make this song really shine.

Future Islands – Seasons (Waiting on You)

Future Islands is a strange anomaly that puts a smile on my face on every listen. This is a band that has plays their own style, and a vocalist who gives it his all. Check out their live performance on letterman and you’ll see what I mean.
