Being stuck in between more notable cities like Buffalo and Syracuse and being 6 hours away from New York City, Rochester, NY is often overlooked when it comes to bigger tours. Whenever one does come through, it’s always an anticipated event. The Made To Destroy Tour was no exception here taking place at one of the larger Rochester venues, the Main Street Armory, on September 17th. Walking up seeing the line of eager fans out the door got me excited for the show as well. Not really knowing what to expect from this tour in this city, I was eager to see what was in store.
First up was Fearless Records’ band, I Prevail. I hadn’t really known much about this band except for their popular Taylor Swift cover that brought them tons of attention and viral success. They impressed both the crowd and myself with their powerful and dynamic post-hardcore sound. They had some great onstage energy and the dual vocal style between their two frontmen worked for their sound perfectly. I am interested to see what this band does next with their already promising presence as a band.
Neck Deep took the stage next, getting the crowd amped up with their energetic brand of pop punk straight from the U.K. At first, I thought a band like this would be an odd fit for this tour, but after seeing the crowd sing along and jump around, it was clear that they were the perfect choice. The band’s catchy melodies echoed throughout the venue, as the bands energy onstage proved contagious as the crowd reacted with circle pits and crowd surfing. Neck Deep is proving to be quite the machine when it comes to performing and winning over crowds like this. I’ve seen them several times over the years, and it seems that they just keep getting better and never slow down.
A large white sheet dropped in front of the stage right before Pierce The Veil’s set, covering the stage and prompting cheers from the crowd. Projected on this sheet was a quick animated video showing a spaceship cruising through various scenes and then crashing into Rochester. Phones were out and ready as the crowd cheered louder.
The sheet then dropped to reveal a spaceship themed setup that the band slowly emerged from wearing spacesuits and all. I’ve always appreciated Pierce The Veil’s creative production. It’s one of the things that have made them stand out and thrive for as long as they have been a band. They always keep things interesting. When the first song kicked in and the stage lit up, I truly felt all that energy and excitement I’ve seen all night from the crowd. As I looked around song after song, I saw fans of different ages singing along, jumping to the music or in the mosh pit. It seemed like this was a band that had something for everyone. Whether they played new songs from their recently released album Misadventures or some older classics such as “Caraphernelia,” the crowd was responsive and ready to sing every word. Pierce The Veil was as hectic as ever on stage, jumping off the risers, running around the stage and singing to the crowd. This is a band that understands the concept of energy and how to keep the show entertaining. From their colorful set up to the trademark powerful guitars with crisp catchy vocals, everything about the performance was enough to keep anyone’s attention. It was truly Pierce The Veil’s time to shine.
Overall, the Made To Destroy Tour was full of high energy and bands that know how to make it a show worth remembering. This tour has something for everyone regardless of age or music preference. Each band delivers what they do best and keeps the vibe alive and going all night. It went above and beyond my expectations and definitely lived up to the hype.
